Oh look, a blog.

Why does this site need a blog?

krist-:

start.io

similar to delicious but MUCH better, for me, anyway. also similar to google reader and such.

what is it? a “bookmark holder”, cept it lets you know when your bookmarked sites have been updated. (obviously it cant ‘track’ every site as some just arent compatable but you can still bookmark them w/the rest). works great for blogspot blogs, tumblrs, and other various things.

if you’re like me and have a tumblr but a few favorite blogspots cept you hate blogspot as a platform and never use it for your own blog you always miss when your blogspot peeps update unless you remember to check everyday. start.io changes that, because it lets you know if they have updated or not.

it works great with mobile phones, and has a specific (over and above the mobile ‘version’) iPhone / iTouch version of their site that works great.

this concept / site gets an A+ from me :)

Thanks!

Do you use Safari 4 and start.io? Here’s how you can change your Home button into a startpage button:

Download and unzip the required assets.
Quit Safari.
Go to your Applications folder, right click Safari and choose “Show Package Contents.”
Place the file ToolbarHomepageTemplate.pdf in ~/Contents/Resources/. Be sure to backup the original file (the zip includes a backup as well).

Safari should now have a snazzy .io button. This is completely not supported; customize at your own risk.

Oh, and this happened. Over 1 million clicks! Those numbers are also being updated much more accurately now.

In a time of information overload, less is more is an appealing mantra. So when I heard about start.io on net@night, my interest was immediately piqued. So far, I find it to be a fantastic, minimalist dashboard.

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

Sarah Lane reviews start.io on last night’s TWiT podcast.

A few choice quotes: “A table of contents for the internet.”, “It’s the most basic thing in the world.” and “It’s [the simple sites] that are sticky for the average user. All of a sudden, my mom can set that up.”

Be sure to check out the auto update feature though, Leo. It gives you a “realtime” feel without overwhelming you.

start.io is your new homepage. It holds all of your most used links so you can get to them quickly from wherever you are, and it’s super customizable.

If you previously had a pHome.us account all your data was transferred over.
